MANILA, Philippines (Xinhua) - Philippine police foiled an attempt to kidnap a Chinese Filipino and his sons in Benguet province in northern Philippines Tuesday.

Provincial police chief Wilben Mayor identified the victim as Ricardo Lu, in his 40s. He is owner of the Pacific Lumber Co.

When he was about to ferry his sons to school this morning, he was caught by a group of armed men and forced to get on board their vehicle, police said.

According to the victims, they were blindfolded with masking tape on their eyes and mouth and their hands tied. They were asked to keep silent until they reached their destination.

Lu told police that a day prior to the incident, he noticed the vehicle at the premises of their house and it was the same vehicle that was used in their abduction.

Cherry Ann B Lestino, a female worker of Pacific Lumber, personally reported to the police after her boss and his children were abducted.

Upon reports, police intercepted the vehicle at a police checkpoint and seized three suspects with age ranging from 23 to 34.

Also seized were two short guns.

The purpose of the kidnapping is being investigated.
